GENERAL ORTHODONTIC INSTRUCTIONS: During your orthodontic treatment it is extremely important that your oral hygiene be superb. Use this document to find out what foods you can eat and which to avoid. Also find out about proper brushing techniques and when to brush and floss.
ABOUT YOUR RAPID PALATAL EXPANDER (R.P.E.) The R.P.E. is used to widen the upper jaw so that the bottom and upper teeth will fit together better. Use this document to find out all about the use of separators, fitting bands, the placement of your R.P.E. and how we will monitor the expander.
ABOUT YOUR BRACES: Braces are used to align and straighten teeth and help to position them with regard to a person's bite, while also working to improve dental health. Use this document to find out about separators, the placement of your braces and adjustment appointments.
ABOUT YOUR REMOVABLE APPLIANCE: Orthodontic appliances are necessary when braces alone are not adequate to fully correct your orthodontic problem. This document will tell you about designing your appliance, having it fitted and the adjustment appointments you'll have.
SEPARATOR CARE INSTRUCTIONS: How to brush, whether or not to floss and what foods to eat and which to avoid. This document will help you to care for your separators and make your orthodontic procedure as painless and as helpful as possible. We'll tell you what to do in an emergency to.
ELASTICS CARE INSTRUCTIONS: Elastics are used to move your teeth. It's really important that you wear them consistently for best results and to minimize your own discomfort. This document will tell you how to care for them, when you can remove them and what to do if you should lose an elastic.
RETAINER CARE INSTRUCTIONS: Without the use of retainers, your teeth will relapse to their original position. This document will teach you how to care and clean your retainer. We'll also tell you where it's safe to keep it and how to make sure your pets don't chew your retainer up!
EARLY TREATMENT INFORMATION: Even though most people think of pre-teens and teens when they think of orthodontics, there are good reasons your child should get an orthodontic evaluation much sooner. We recommend a check-up with Dr. Coups Smith no later than age seven.
